North Richmond Community Health - Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR)
What we did:
ThinkWell worked with the leadership team at the Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) to support greater alignment, clarity, and sustainability in a complex, multidisciplinary setting.
We began with consultation conversations with executive and senior leaders to understand the unique pressures of the MSIR context, including the emotional demands of the work, the diversity of professional roles, and the need for consistent leadership approaches across the service.
To ensure all voices were heard, we designed and administered confidential leadership surveys, allowing team members to share honest feedback about strengths, challenges, and areas for growth. This data formed the foundation for open, transparent discussion and helped establish psychological safety for the work ahead.
Building on this, we facilitated a full-day, trauma-informed leadership workshop. The session combined:
- Psychoeducation on trauma, stress, and group dynamics
- Guided reflection on personal and professional values
- Structured dialogue to depersonalise challenges and reduce reactivity
- Practical strategies for navigating complexity, difference, and pressure
Through this process, leaders were supported to better understand their own leadership impact, recognise the strengths and differences within the team, and develop shared ways of responding to stress and challenge.
The work concluded with practical planning and implementation activities, resulting in the leadership team:
- Developing a deeper understanding of their own and one another’s values
- Agreeing on a set of shared, aspirational leadership principles
- Identifying clear priorities to guide future leadership practice
This work provided MSIR with a strong foundation for consistent leadership, clearer service parameters, and an approach aligned with their strategic direction and the realities of frontline harm-reduction work.
What they said:
ThinkWell Consulting utilised their many years of collective AOD, Trauma Informed knowledge and experience to tailor a remarkable training day for our leadership team. Ariane and Jessamy captured the brief so accurately, and were able to tailor to our unique and very dynamic environment, and ensure applicability to the many challenges we are presented through running such complex programs. Crucially, they led the day with deep empathy, which ensured our teams felt safe to share and make meaningful contributions. If you are considering a facilitated workshop, I would absolutely recommend ThinkWell. Laura O’Shea (Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nurse)
